The San Francisco Giants have signed free agent pitcher, Jake Peavy to a two-year deal worth $24 million, a source informed ESPN.com. Ken Rosenthal with FOXSports.com was the first to report on this deal early Friday morning.

The contract will pay Peavy, 33, a $7 million base salary next year and $13 million the following year. The deal included a $4 million signing bonus with an awards bonus and a full no-trade clause.

Peavy struggled at the beginning of the 2014 season with the Boston Red Sox. He made 20 starts and went 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA. However, after he was traded to the Giants in July, Peavy's numbers started to improve. He went 6-4 with an ERA of 2.17 in 12 starts over 78.2 innings.

During the postseason, his performance was shaky. He finished the season lasting only 1 1/3 innings in Game 6 of the World Series against the Kansas City Royals. Overall, he posted a 6.19 ERA in 16 innings.

"I have a lot to prove. If I went out and threw a shutout in Game 6 or pitched the way I did down the stretch, maybe it would have allowed me to relax too much this winter and not play this role I need to play. I need to have people doubting me, because that's when you dig deep and find out what you're made of," Peavy had said to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick. "I like it to a degree, because it spurs you on and kicks you in the butt. I've done that my whole life. I have no problem at 33 proving that I'm not a washed-up 40-year-old."

The veteran added, "I have no agenda. I'll play anywhere. All I need is a reason to believe that it's a good place for me and that I'm wanted, and I'm coming. And I'm going to do everything I can to help the other 24 guys believe and pull in the same direction."

The three-time All-Star has a career 139-111 record with an ERA of 3.53. Peavy won the National League CY Young Award in 2007 while pitching for the San Diego Padres.

Peavy will join Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain, Time Hudson and Tim Linececum in the rotation.
