According to reports, Sam Mendes confirmed his exit from "James Bond" during 2016 Hay Festival. While his departure from the franchise is a sure surprise, he claims to have finished his journey with "James Bond." He also added that it is the right time for the new director to take his place. Mendes explains that since he is a storyteller, he now wants to work with new stories with different characters. Sam Mendes was introduced to the "James Bond" films with "Skyfall" in 2010. His second, and also his final, "James Bond" film was "Spectre," that released in 2015.

Reportedly, the new 007 series are now looking for an equally able director to take on the project. However, it is still unconfirmed whether or not there will be a new actor playing the role of James Bond. This means, so far, Tom Hiddleston, Damien Lewis or Idris Alba will not be the next Bond stars.

Barbara Broccoli, "James Bond" producer, will likely cast someone that the people do not approve of. According to Sam Mendes, when Daniel Craig took on the role, he had no supporters. However, this changed as the movie hit the theatres and Daniel Craig gained critical acclaim for his role. With Daniel Craig's casting, it was proved yet again that Broccoli knows how to keep the franchise live and kicking. For now, no release date is known for the next "James Bond' film.
