Season 8 of 'The Vampire Diaries' was announced in March and the shooting is now in full swing. The eighth season will return to TV screens with renewed vigor and verve.

And among all other things, the most important thing fans are expecting is Stefan and Caroline's relationship. They want the duo to be together. At the end of the seventh season, they had tried to bury their differences and found themselves moving in the direction of reconciliation. They gave their relationship another chance despite the hurdles that came their way.

So, in the light of the 'fence mending", viewers are looking forward to seeing a stronger relationship between the two. But it looks like they won't have a smooth ride because it is rumored that Nina Dobrev is returning to the show. She was last seen as playing Elena and it is speculated that she will brew trouble in the love life of the pair.

And if actress Candice King's (who plays Caroline Forbes on the show) statement is taken into account, the speculations find more strength. Talking to IGN, she said that Season 8 will be very likely a long road trip. She also warned the fans about more twists in the path of Stefan and Caroline before they achieve their purpose of saving Damon and Enzo.

The actress said that Stefan and Caroline will come across many challenges as they reconstruct their strained relationship but she believes that it is the best way to move forward on the path of love rather than have a smooth sailing. She also revealed that she is expecting Stefan to pursue her character from a new angle and admitted to Caroline being a very demanding girl.

It may be mentioned here that the series has not been kind to love affairs ever since the first season aired. Almost all of them suffered sad ends and given the tough path lying ahead for the two, it is quite reasonable to expect the duo to meet a similar end. But there is no harm in hoping for an exception.
