Kpop News: GOT7’s Jackson talks about turning down his scholarship for Stanford University

On the Chinese show "Please Take Care of My Refrigerator", Jackson of GOT7 talks about turning down a scholarship from Stanford University just to achieve his own hopes and dreams of becoming a singer.

He mentioned that he held back deciding in getting in Stanford University. He also admits that he received offering from the University of Hong Kong. Jackson was a member of Hong Kong's national fencing team at the same time.

Despite series of offerings, Jackson stated that he chose to enter Korea to achieve his dreams of becoming an idol. He explains further on how he let go of being a fencer on a national team, "When I was preparing for the London Olympics, my father didn't think much of it when I told him I wanted to become a singer. But when I brought the actual trainee contract to him, he was so surprised to the point that he was at a loss for words," and, "Regardless of whether or not I could succeed, I just wanted try many different things." As Soompi quoted.

Jackson also shared that he has a difficult time when the London Olympics in 2012 start-off. He said, "My friends who prepared for the London Olympics all participated in the competition and a close older friend even won the gold medal. But since I was just a trainee so I wasn't doing anything. It was hard back then, but I didn't regret it."

He made his official debut as a member of Got7 with the debut single "Girls Girls Girls", released on 16 January 2014, from the group's first EP. As stated, Jackson is a former national fencer for the Hong Kong fencing team, and ranked 11th in the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, winning first place at the Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships in 2011.
