If there is one transfer story that simply would not go away then it is the one related to Cristiano Ronaldo's purported return to Manchester United that would complete a fairytale return to the club where it all started for the Portuguese star and in fact, back in 2013 it seemed that Ronaldo would move to United but in the end he signed a contract extension at Real Madrid. However, things are looking a bit different this year with the decision among the Manchester United hierarchy that they are going to do everything that is possible to bring their one time young prodigy back to Old Trafford and it seems that the appointment of Jose Mourinho could be one of the reasons why this transfer could yet happen this summer.

Real Madrid want £80 million for Ronaldo, who is without doubt their greatest player in history and Manchester United are prepared to meet the asking price, even though the player is now 31 years old and has a one or two quality seasons left in him. However, Manchester United are all set to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager and he shares the services of the super agent Jorge Mendes with Cristiano Ronaldo, which could in the end work as the biggest reason why the move could take place in the summer.

One of the most important things to keep in mind in terms of this transfer is that the Manchester United CEO Ed Woodward might have done very well in terms of commercial revenues but has failed to attract the sort of players that a club of United's magintude demands, which is why he has thrown his weight behind this transfer and is willing to pay Ronaldo an improved wage if he does decide to return to Manchester United. On the other hand, Real Madrid bought Ronaldo from United for £80 million back in the summer of 2009 and there is no doubt that they would consider it a huge deal if they can recoup the entire transfer fee after the player has played 8 seasons for them.
