Game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) has just confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel to the hugely popular 'Star Wars: Battlefront' shooter franchise is currently under development but will eventually be slated for an upcoming release soon. In additions, excitement is adding up to the speculations regard the major tweaks in 'Battlefront 2' which reportedly include a single-player traditional mode.

In a recent EA Investor Day conference, EA exec Patrick Soderlund discussed in length the factors that made Star Wars: Battlefront a huge success and teased fans of the forthcoming changes in the next installment of the sci-fi game series. Soderlund explained that the original Battlefront concept is to include a single-player campaign feature in the game but EA and DICE are in an extremely tight production schedule in order to coincide its release with the theatrical premiere of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.'

"The one thing we got criticized for was the lack of a single-player campaign," the EA chief said during the EA Investor's Day event as per Gospel Herald report. "It was a conscious decision I made due to time and being able to launch the game side-by-side with the movie that came out to get the strongest possible impact."

Despite the lack of a single-player story, the title remains a big success although the developers understand that they need to incorporate what fans need to have on the title. As a response to the criticism, Soderlund teased fans that the forthcoming iteration will certainly remedy the game features that were not added to the product due to an uncompromising business schedule.

"I would say the game has done very well for us and reached a very different demographic than a traditional EA game. So from that perspective, it's a success. Are we happy with the 75 rating? No. Is that something we're going to cure going forward? Absolutely," remarked Soderlund as quoted in a report by Christian Today.

How the single-story campaign feature will play out remains a big question although some fans speculate that the developers may connect it with the upcoming Star Wars films' plot. In fact, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen already dropped hints about bridging the Battlefront follow-ups to the famous Star Wars franchise timeline. So far, no release dates for the sequel has been confirmed although observers assume that the game might be launched in November this year since the first title was rolled out in that same month last year.

Meanwhile, a free PC trial game for DICE's Star Wars Battlefront is now available. Gamers are entitled to four hours of free gaming of the trial version before buying it. EA has also offered similar free trials before like the one on Star Wars Day, Game Spot reported. Other games with free trials available for download on Origin include Battlefield 4 (7 days), Unravel (10 hours; Level 1 only), The Sims 4 (2 days), and Titanfall (2 days).
