An investigation into the death of a Christian teenager who was found hanging in the Millgate Fields area of Fletcher Moss Park in Didsbury Sept. 10 has revealed that she killed herself over "misplaced" fears of revealing her sexuality to her parents.

Elisabeth Lowe, 14, who was also known as Lizzie had confided into her friends that she might be a lesbian. Her friends said that days before killing herself, she had been worried that her parents would not accept her sexuality.

One friend told the inquest: "She said she wasn't sure if they (parents) would be ok with it. I told her that I didn't think it would be like that but she did not want to tell them."

Another friend told Manchester Evening News that Lizzie was "finding it hard to connect with God as she thought she was lying to him".

On the other hand, Lizzie's father Ken said that he would have supported her and she shouldn't have ended her life. He said that his daughter was "out-going and fun-loving" and if she had tried to speak about her being a lesbian to them, it "wouldn't have come as much surprise".

"She was very mature, she knew what she wanted and she knew her own mind. We would have been very supportive," he told the inquest.

A friend of Lizzie's told her mother that before hanging herself she had sent her a text which ended, "...stay strong. I am sorry," Metro reports.

Even though her friends had told the coroner that they had discussed self-harm as well as suicide with Lizzie, Det Insp David Turner who was overseeing the investigation said that he had ruled out any 'suicide pact'.
