Recently leaked images and renders of the iPhone 7 suggest the phone will not be very similar to iPhone 6 or 6S, as has been speculated earlier.

Speculation about the iPhone 7 being a replica of its predecessors has been around for a while and touted as reason for the phone's impending failure in sales terms. However, new images suggest the phone will bear significant differences, including absence of headphone jack, changes to antenna placement and the body design.

Forbes used an image, purportedly authentic, to report that the iPhone 7 may feature a unibody metal design with a significant camera bump, indicating improvements to the phone's imaging capabilities. Additionally, the image shows two holes next to the camera module. One could be an additional microphone for high-quality sound recording, it was speculated, while the second could be laser for autofocus. Laser autofocus would help the camera perform faster besides improving images captured in low-light conditions.

While leaked images are convincing, the lack of evidence for a smart connector throws in a shred of doubt. Numerous reports have claimed the iPhone 7 will feature a smart connector to connect with Apple products.

Renders from a case-making company, purportedly based on leaked schematics, also claim antennas on the iPhone 7 will taper along curves of top and bottom unlike previous phones; antenna lines streamed horizontally across the back of the devices in older devices. These renders also show two grilles at the bottom, one of which could be the rumored second stereo speaker.

It must be noted that Apple has not said anything about iPhone 7 which is expected to release in September. A few reports have suggested Apple could launch a 5.5-inch Pro version of iPhone 7 with dual-camera modules but later reports suggested that all 5.5-inch Plus devices will feature dual-cameras. Despite a robust demand forecast, sales expectations for the iPhone 7 have not been encouraging due to the rumored lack of novelty in the phone's design.
