Manchester City might have won a trophy this season in the form of the Capital One Cup and recorded their best ever finish in the UEFA Champions League by reaching the semi final of the tournament but overall the season had an overwhelming air of disappointment attached to it due to the obvious cracks in the squad that got routinely exposed. However, the appointment of arguably the best manager in the world in the form of Pep Guardiola has given the club a new sense of purpose and they are now trying to rebuild the team with an aggressive acquisition spree.

One of their targets for the midfield this summer is German club Schalke 04's 19 year old attacking midfielder Leroy Sane and the manager Pep Guardiola is apparently a huge fan of the player. Guardiola, who is known to have one of the most discerning eyes in football considers the German midfielder to be among the best talents in Europe at the moment and considering the fact that bitter rivals Manchester United are also trying to sign him in the summer, Manchester City are preparing a bid of £30 million for the player. It is however important to point out that the scouts at Manchester City have been in attendance at Schakle's games several times this season and have been serious about the season for a long time, however the emergence of United as a possible rival has hastened the process somewhat.

However, Schalke 04 representatives are well aware of the sort of player they have in their hands and have slapped a price tag of £40 million on the player. Additionally, Barcelona are also interested in the player and have watched him plenty of times this season. Although it is true that Sane, who scored 9 goals across all competitions for his club this season, might eventually choose to play under Guardiola, there is a real possibility that a fiery bidding war might commence among some of the biggest clubs in Europe for his signature.
