Taiwan-based tech firm Acer is reportedly making a foray into the nascent virtual reality industry in recent partnership with StarVR. Swedish developer Starbreeze has recently announced that its StarVR headset will be manufactured by Acer. The collaborative partnership will reportedly cover all aspects of virtual reality technology.

"Since our launch in June 2015, we have had an amazing start with StarVR. By partnering with Acer we shift gears yet again to firmly position us as the leader in top-end VR experiences. Acer is an excellent, experienced and prominent hardware partner that will accelerate us in realizing and producing a high-definition, high-fidelity VR headset," said Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson Klint as quoted in an official press release via Business Wire.

According to VG247, StarVR has been touted as a promising premium virtual reality headset that offer more high-end VR experience than what either Facebook-owned Oculus or Vive can provide. The announcement seems to suggest that the Starbreeze's VR gear will specifically cater to enterprise clients in the 'location-based' entertainment line of business.

Furthermore, the Swedish-designed VR will still be made to fit with a number of powerful laptop and desktop computers manufactured by Acer. For the meantime, Starbreeze will concentrate their efforts on business consumers. Any plans for an outright mass consumer version remains to be seen.

In last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), StarVR became total standout in the VR tech sector with its wide field of vision that simulates a deeply immersive experience based on what a person sees in a real-life environment.

As per The Verge, Starbreeze's StarVR boasts a 210-degree field of view- more superb than Oculus Rift's and HTC Vive's 110-degree field of view. With Acer on board, Starbreeze has gained a reliable tech partner with decades of tech knowhow in hardware development which would allow the company to efficiently build the headsets it designs at home.
