A new app has been developed for both the Mac and Windows platforms in a way which will help the messaging service better and up their competition.

WhatsApp is taking its popular messaging service to the desktop with a new Mac and Windows app that was released this Tuesday. The desktop version is pretty much the same that we used on browsers. But now the millions of WhatsApp users can now continue conversations from their phone on a computer and vice versa. That's very beneficial for people who want to chat with friends on WhatsApp without having to use their phones.

The move should help WhatsApp better compete with other messaging services like Line, WeChat and Telegram, which already have desktop applications available for at least one platform or the other. In order to set the app up, users have to scan a QR code inside the application with the Android or iPhone versions of WhatsApp which was already existing for the browser uses which will then only allow the user to log into the application and use it right away. This brings in a new question whether Facebook is also planning for a similar move for their messenger application which till then hasn't yet have their own standalone app but already accessible through respective platform application stores.

Messaging applications have become increasingly popular over the past few years due to booming mobile phone industry. WhatsApp is definitely without a doubt one of the leaders in the same market after WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook in 2014 in a deal worth $22 billion. In also other news, for now seems like Brazilians need to wait for more time since WhatsApp was temporarily blocked by a judge in Brazil, after the company didn't turn over data being sought by the government. That order was overturned on appeal last week.
