Daniel Bruhl has just added a TV project to his increasingly busy schedule. Bruhl has officially signed on for the 10-part limited series Mafiya.

The German actor revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in Cannes that he has signed up for Mafiya, an upcoming series set around the fall of the Soviet Union that is being financed and distributed by The Weinstein Co. and ITV Studios.

"Yeah, I'm signed up," Bruhl said at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association reception. "It's a such a great, great story."

In August of 2015, in an article from Deadline reporting the news of Mafiya being developed, Thykier and Marshall conveyed their enthusiasm for the series and working with Nicholson. "Bill has created a fascinating and thrilling window into the world of the Russian Oligarchy. An epic drama that takes you from the fall of the Berlin Wall through to the election of Vladimir Putin," Thykier and Marshall said. "We are excited to bring his vision to life and could not be happier to be partnering with the combined might of The Weinstein Company and ITV Studios Global Entertainment."

The 10-part series, written by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Shadowlands, Les Miserables) and produced by Archery Pictures, the U.K. banner founded by industry veterans Kris Thykier and Liza Marshall, will bring to screen the power vacuum of 1990s Moscow, when criminal gangs and private armies clashed over wealth and control.

Production was initially set to start earlier this year. "It was supposed to be this year, but I now think it'll be next," Bruhl said.

The prolific actor has a bunch of film projects in the pipelines. Alone in Berlin, which bowed in Berlin, is still selling internationally, while The Zookeeper's Wife and the all-star sci-fi God Particle, being produced by J.J. Abrams, are in the works. Bruhl has also also become a partner at Berlin-based production banner Amusement Park Film, which was behind A Most Wanted Man.
