Now that the European club football season is almost over, the focus now shifts to the summer transfer window and there are going to be hundreds of deals that would be completed by the clubs in the top leagues in the world in order to strengthen their squads ahead of another gruelling season in 2016-17. Two English clubs who are going to be extremely active in this summer's transfer market are the Manchester based arch rivals- Manchester City and Manchester United, since both clubs need to recruit a fair number of players if they are to have a fair crack at the English Premier League trophy next season. In that light, both clubs have identified Real Madrid's German midfield star Toni Kroos as one of their prime targets tis summer and are willing to go toe to toe if it comes to a bidding war, since both clubs have the financial strength to drive up the price of the player considerably.

United's current manager Louis van Gaal and City's incoming manager Pep Guardiola rate the Real Madrid midfielder highly and believe he is just the perfect player, who would completely rejuvinate the midfield for their teams. Kroos, who is a regular in the German national team and has been a mainstay of the Real Madrid ever since he joined the Spanish joints might be allowed to go by the club this summer as they chase other targets. According to many sources, Juventus' French star Paul Pogba is their primary target this summer and they would need to raise a considerable amount of money to bring him to Spain, which is why Kroos might be on his way out.

Guardiola had been after Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan but the player suffered a long term injury a few days back, which has scuppered his plans and he is now intent on acquiring Toni Kross. United have already made discreet enquiries regarding the player and it could finally come down to the player's preference regarding his next destination.
