Shortly after unveiling its real-time Translator preview, Skype has announced a limited time offer in which Skype users in India will be able to call any landline or mobile number in the US or Canada for free. The offer is valid for existing and new users until March 1 2015.

The offer is just in time for the holiday season when the number of phone calls placed tends to skyrocket.

"Yes, that's right - for a limited time only all calls from India to mobiles and landlines in the United States and Canada are completely free. And you don't even need to do anything other than start calling," states the Skype India home page.

The offer has very few limitations. The calls made in the offer period can be up to four hours long. After that time, if you want to continue chat, you can simply reconnect. However, for business use, such as in call centers, use of offer is prohibited. Other than these limitations, it is a clear cut offer and is expected to be well-received.

The offer is evidently aimed at growing the user base of Skype in India. The offer follows the news of Microsoft collaborating with Amazon India for its own store to sell its range of hardware and software products on the e-commerce website. Before the announcement the company was selling its hardware through dealers network channel. Although the software like Windows operating system, Office, Visual Studio etc were sold online.
