After a short bout of rumors, Samsung is launching the Galaxy J5 (2016) and its bigger cousin Galaxy J7 (2016) on Monday in India.

Samsung reportedly sent invites for an event scheduled on Monday where the phones are expected to be revealed. The mid-range phones targeting bigger markets like Asia, was first launched in China. Soon the phone surfaced on Spanish and French sites of Samsung but was not formally launched in Europe. Last week, Samsung introduced the devices in its home country South Korea.

The Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon processor and 2 GB RAM with a super AMOLED 5.2-inch 720p display. With a 3,100 mAh battery under the hood and Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box, prospective buyers can easily expect it to last a day of heavy use on single charge. The Galaxy J series of devices are known to offer performance at affordable prices.

Samsung's launch of the Galaxy J7 in South Korea surprised all as it featured less RAM compared to the Chinese variant; the company launched the Galaxy J7 in Seoul with 2 GB RAM while the phone launched in China was supported by 3 GB RAM.

In India, the Galaxy J7 (2016) is expected to pack a more powerful octa-core Snaprdragon processor clocked at 1.6 Ghz and 3 GB RAM. It has a bigger 5.5-inch Full HD display with a 3,300 mAh battery, only slightly bigger than what Samsung has provided in the Galaxy J5. It remains to be seen how long the battery lasts powering the 400 ppi screen.

Both phones have the same 13 MP rear and 5 MP front camera. Connectivity options include WiFi, USB 2.0, Bluetooth and 4G with the bigger J7 also sporting NFC support. If South Korean and Chinese prices are any indication, the Galaxy J5 is expected to sell at about Rs. 17,000 ($ 255) while the J7 (2016) is expected to retail at about Rs. 21,000 ($ 315).
