The TV version "Game of Thrones" has already outpaced "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series as the sixth season started airing from April 24. The HBO team has announced the sixth and seventh seasons as well, but there is no conclusive information about the release of the sixth novel.

No one has any concrete idea when is winter coming. But, according to reports, the book is already in the publishing house and may release this year. Though no official confirmation has come out from any party, author George R.R. Martin has been dropping hints regarding the book's release.

The author is reported to have said that he wanted to finish the book before season 6 started airing but could not do so. He wished it was out by now, but maybe he was being too optimistic about his abilities. However, he has begun to take reins in his hands and is doing all that he can to get the task done. He has canceled convention appearances and interviews to devote time to writing.

Meanwhile, it is being widely speculated that the book may hit the stands anytime in the middle of the year when the sixth season is in progress and take everyone by surprise. The readers would be definitely pleased beyond imagination, if it happens.

Notably, Martin had earlier hinted at the sixth installment releasing before the sixth season but the showrunners outperformed him. David Benioff and Dan Weiss are back with the sixth season and they have also admitted to taking liberties in the sixth season. They have said that the show is inspired from the book and there are similarities, but differences will also be there.

As for Martin, he has also indicated at the proposed book being different from the show. Well, whatever way it turns out, the thing that is sure is that the readers are awaiting the book with bated breath.
