The 2015-16 season will be regarded as one of those great missed opportunities for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, as they failed to sustain a title challenge in a season in which unheralded Leicester City are sitting at the top of the table. One of the big reasons for the collapse is the lack of depth in the central midfield positions, however manager Arsene Wenger has decided to address that issue by making an offer for Borussia Monchengladbach's Swiss central midfielder Granit Xhaka and it is expected that a deal could be completed at some point in the summer.

The Gladbach captain has been on the Gunners' radar for some time and over the past few weeks, it has been reported that the North London club are interested in bring him to the Emirates Stadium in 2016 and according to latest reports, the player has agreed personal terms with the club. In the past, the player has dropped statements regarding his interest of playing for playing in the English Premier League and in fact said, that it is his dream to play in the league in the near future. Arsenal had earlier placed a bid of £24 million for his services a few weeks back but the German club had been holding out for a fee of £32 million for their star midfielder and now the Gunners have gone back with a second bid that is closer to the expectations of the powers that be at Borussia Gladbach.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had been asked about the possible transfer in press conferences and he has been coy about the whole thing, which gives further credence to the fact that Arsenal are definitely interested in signing the Swiss international. Xhaka would bring the sort of leadership quality that is often missing from the Arsenal midfield and is known as a player who can not only set up play from deep but is also an excellent ball winner who can dominate against the best in the game. This is a transfer that would certainly excite Arsenal fans since they have not had a midfielder in this mould since the days of former great Patrick Vieira.
