Manchester United are all set to be disappointed once again in a period of three years in their pursuit of re-signing their former player Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, as the Portuguese is now in talks with the club to sign a new contract that would keep him at the club for the foreseeable future. According to reports that had surfaced over the past few weeks, Ronaldo was thought to be on his way out of Real Madrid and either of Paris Saint Germain or Manchester United were speculated as his possible destination. Ronaldo did not have his most productive season by his own standards and the Real Madrid hierarchy had decided to cash in on their mega star for a fee of around £60 million, but a reversal in form has caused a change of heart. The fact that he is now 31 years old and perhaps has only a few more seasons of top flight football left in him was also probably the reason why they had entertained the thought of selling him.

However, latest reports in the British publication The Daily Mail, suggest that the management at Real Madrid has realised that Ronaldo is still one of the best players in the world despite being 31 years old and are now prepared to offer him an improved contract. The fact that he crossed 30 goals in the La Liga for the sixth time in as many years is testament to his consistency. Real Madrid are poised to spend heavily in the transfer market in the summer in order to rebuild the squad after a season in which the team's play swayed from the sublime to the ridiculous and it was thought that Ronaldo would be in the market. However, the club are now going to offer him a bigger contract although Manchester United's CEO Ed Woordward is keen to bring one of the biggest names in world football to Old Trafford in order to boost the image of the club and also give it the sprinling of star dust that it so desperately needs.
