Barcelona's recent lack of form and embarrassing exit from the UEFA Champions League at the quarter final stage has forced the club hierarchy to identify new recruits that would significantly improve their team for the 2016-17 season. According to latest reports that originated in Europe, the club is looking to bring Paris Saint Germain's Italian midfielder Marco Verratti to the Camp Nou and are prepared to break the bank for the signature of the 23 year old star, who is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the continent. Barcelona might have the best front three in the world but they have struggled to dominate the midfield like they used to in the past and that has set the alarm bells ringing in the higher echelons of the club management.

There have been times in the season that Barcelona has looked bereft of ideas against well drilled teams and their midfield has often been found wanting. One of the reasons put forward is the lack of depth in the midfield ranks and the club has had to play with the same personnel for an extended period of time, which gave way to fatigue and the resulting disappointments. However, the club has now decided to put in a bid for highly rated PSG midfielder Marco Verratti and are prepared to pay a handsome fee for him.

Verratti is highly valued member of PSG's squad and it is believed that the Parisian club are reluctant to do any business, considering the fact that they want to build their midfield around the Italian. Barcelona, however, believe that a bid of around £47 million could be enought to show that they are serious about the player and they are now in the process of preparing a package that could be acceptable to the powers that be at PSG. Barcelona are still trying to recrete the midfield with Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets, that helped them in dominating European football and believe that the addition of Verratti would go a long way in recreating it.
