Liverpool's hopes of signing Barcelona's first choice goalkeeper Marc-Ander Ter Stegen could be dashed as the Cataland club are now in the process of tying him down to a new long term contract, according to reports in the Spanish publication Don Balon. Barcelona has been served well by the German who joined the club Borussioa Monchengladbach in 2014 and are determined to keep him at the Camp Nou in spite of repeated attemts by Liverpool to take him to Anfield in the summer.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has not been happy with the frequent blunders committed by their first choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet throughout the duration of the 2015-16 season and he has been considering moves for a more reliable goalkeeper for some time. The reserve goalkeeper Adam Bogdan has not been any better either and Klopp is determined to go for an upgrade on that position in the summer. He has identified fellow German Ter Stegen as the ideal replacement for Mignolet but it seems that Barcelona are in no mood to let their man go. Ter Stegen has not been able to dislodge Claudio Bravo from the first eleven in league games and has only been able to play in 4 La Liga fixtures for the Catalan giants. However, he is the keeper of choice for Barcelona in European competitions. The lack of playing time seems to be the reason why Ter Stegen might consider a move to another club and that seems to be the reason why Liverpool are pursuing him.

Barcelona officials seem to have identified the issues and are now prepared to offer him an improved contract. He will not only be offered a higher wage but will also be given assurances in relation to playing time and they expect Ter Stegen to sign on the dotted line. On the other hand, it has also been reported that Pep Guardiola is an admirer of the goalkeeper and hence Manchester City are also considering a move for him. However, Joe Hart seems to be the first choice goalkeeper at City and Ter Stegen might face the same problems that he is experiencing at Barcelona.
