Fans are now anxious to know about the new Call of Duty that is due to be released this year. Amongst all these rumors, the only news that has Activision's seal of approval is that Call of Duty will be released in fourth quarter of this year. So, the fans can expect it to release anytime around Christmas.

The new game that is coming up this year has no name so far and the developers, Infinity Ward, call it simply "COD 2016" on Twitter.

Based on the game's three-year cycle, Black Ops 3 by Treyarch, Advanced Warfare by Sledgehammer Games, and Ghost by Infinity Ward, it would be only logical to assume that the next one in the line will be Ghosts 2. However, Infitnity Ward were also the developers of Modern Warfare, so who is to say if it isn't Modern Warfare 4?

However, it is not entirely unthinkable if the new COD is the sequel of Black Ops 4 or Advanced Warfare 2.

Industry insiders report that the new game will be set in outer space and does not have any connection with the previous installments of the COD series. They add that this time the game will take a sci-fi approach for their new COD series.

"2016's Call of Duty will offer space combat between warring sci-fi groups in the far flung future," said Eurogamer. What ever it is called, one thing is for sure that the game will be released on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
