"Shadowhunters" Season 2 news and rumors are going around since the show's season 1 finale. The showrunner of the show, Ed Dector, revealed some spoilers for the next season especially about new characters that are coming to the show.

Many fans are awaiting the official airdate since the cast revealed that the series will continue for a second season. It has been reported though that the "Shadowhunters" season 2 will premiere in early 2017.

TV Line recently had an interview with Dector where he got to reveal some juicy insiders about what to expect when "Shadowhunters" season 2 premieres.

First off, the director was asked how close to the book the show will follow, "Mortal Instruments," the best-selling series the TV show is based off. He responded explaining how the goal of writers is to "surprise" the viewers.

"The goal in the writers' room is to make the fans feel like we're not going to end up in the place they're expecting, then surprise them with how we get there," he said. "We try to keep some surprises for the hardcore fans who initially ask 'What are they doing? Why are they doing this?' The hope is that they eventually come to a point where they say,'"Oh, I get it. I see what they were doing before.'"

The interviewer additionally asked, "Should we be keeping an eye out for any new book characters in Season 2?"

Dector responds revealing that a new character from the book will indeed be added in the new season.

"Some characters we've met go through giant transformation," he said. "Simon's girlfriend Maureen has a lot in store for her, and there's a lot in store for Jocelyn and Luke. There will be new characters we meet as well, including the Seelie Queen. We'll start building into each of the realms in a different way."
