The CBS reboot of the popular action-comedy film series "Rush Hour" premiered yesterday amidst much speculation and anticipation.

So, detectives Lee and Carter are back, but the creators have given them some makeover to suit the taste and sensibilities of the contemporary audience and it is a good move as per sources. The first Rush Hour movie released in 1998 and in no way could the current adaptation be an exact copy after 18 years.

Changes have been made, but the soul of the buddy cop genre remains the same. The show does away with the xenophobic humor and culture clash. It also introduces two female characters in a bid to bring out the human side of the uptight detectives.

The pilot episode begins with Lee making his way to Los Angeles to solve a case, exactly as it was in the movie. He is after an art smuggler who is in the town to seal a deal. He is also the one who has kidnapped Lee's cop sister Kim but it is revealed that Kim is working for the criminals. In the movie, it was the daughter of Lee's boss who got kidnapped.

In another track, Carter, the radical detective comes to the fore. Similar to the movie plot, he chases an arms dealer as an undercover agent. But the TV show plays out the drama through a slight twist i.e. a helicopter crash. And as a punishment, the loner Carter is removed from the assignment.

Afterwards, the show follows the same line as the movie and both the detectives end up meeting each other at a shady bar. Here, Jon Foo aka Lee shows off his Kung Fu skills and though no match for Jackie Chan, he manages to impress. After a series of misadventures, the two decide to become a team.

At the end, Kim flies away from the scene where the detective duo was shot by Thomas. So, the next episode promises some great comedy as their chemistry will also come alive. It will air on 7 April, Thursday night, at 10 p.m.
