David Ludwig, MD, PhD, is a leading obesity researcher and Nutrition professor at Harvard University, suggests that we should pay more attention to what we eat rather than how much we are eating. He adds that our diet has the ability to retrain our fat cells and burn more calories.

Dr. Ludwig's book, "Always Hungry? Conquer Cravings, Retrain Your Fat Cells, and Lose Weight Permanently," explains how we can retrain our fat cells by making right food choices. As a result, we will be able to overpower cravings, overeating and insatiable hunger that cause weight gain.

Ludwig says that the key to effective weight loss lies in working with the body rather than against it. He proposes a three-step program "The Always Hungry Solution." With this program, you are allowed to as many calories as you'd like from the start of your diet till the end. The goal is to never starve and eat foods that accelerate the fat burning process.

His books offer tips on how to eat out but still eat healthy, balanced diet recipes created by his wife who is also a professional chef and how to keep yourself motivated.

A three phase program that he proposes can help one lose two to three pounds in a week, depending on how much weight you want to lose. "The biggest obstacle is expectations from diets that promise sensational weight loss," he says. What you need: a radically different attitude to eating and living well. Part of the reason the Always Hungry Solution works for some might be the gentle approach it takes to eating. "When you put biology on your side, you accomplish the most with the least amount of effort," says Ludwig.
