Steve Moffat, the co-creator of Sherlock had mentioned in an interview that no star would be roped in for the project. And just like Scott, Benedict and Lara Pulver had established themselves on the show, the forthcoming stars would be doing the same. He questions whether roping in established stars and shelling out that extra amount would guarantee additional viewership. Martin and Benedict are the only biggest film stars on board for the show.

The latest rumour about season four is that the Thor actor, would be a part of the show, to portray the character of Sherinford Holmes, a third sibling to Holmes brothers. Mark Gatiss, who is the co-creator, wants Hiddleston to be a part of the show. Recently, Hiddleston was seen essaying the lead roles in "The Night Manager" and "Kong: Skull Island". He is also being considered for playing the role of James Bond as per sources.
