Pakistan's Poor Performance: Waqar Younis takes responsibility.

After Pakistan was knocked out of the World T20 cricket tournament in the initial stages, Pakistan coach Waqar Younis has taken responsibility for Pakistan's poor performance. Pakistan had lost three consecutive matches in the group stages and thus failed to qualify for the Semi-Finals. On Tuesday he begged forgiveness and said that he would resign from the position of coach. However adding to the agony, their humiliating six-wicket defeat to arch-rivals India faced a lot of criticism across the country. Alongside the coach the Pakistani media had also severely criticised the underperforming player and poor management of team across the tournament. Adding to statements he also expressed that the team would not improve until or unless there is transparency and change in the present system.

In a press conference that was held outside the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) office in Lahore, Waqar Younis expressed that "apparent makeup surgery will not work". "I apologise for the team's performance in the T20 World Cup". He also added by saying that "The matter will not be solved, if we blame single individuals, whether it's me, Shahid Afridi or the PCB chairman. We have to find the real inner problems." He also felt that there was need to find long-term solutions. He also expressed that if his resignation was deemed as the solution to the problem then he would happily walk away from the position.

However he denied internal clashes that were present in the dressing room and agreed that he too had faced some difficult times during the tournament. He substantiated it by saying "There is no politics in the team or any grouping. Our performance is bad and so we don't have time for any groupings""The nation's anger is justified because we did not perform well. But now is the time to make things open and clear, the time of hiding actual issues has passed. I was hurt by the team's losses."

Waqar Younis also emphasized on the fact that depriving cricket from its home ground and crowd gave a huge blow and hindered the performances of the players. He added by saying that domestic level cricket in Pakistan has weakened needs to be strengthened. When posed with a question that related to his future in the Pakistani cricket he replied "My future is not linked to cricket. I have been the coach before and I was liked by everyone. So it is not me, or a single person, it is about the system." By saying so he clearly expressed his desires to continue as the coach of Pakistani cricket team.
