Apple are in advanced talks to acquire British component firm Imagination technologies who focus on semiconductors, related intellectual property licensing.

It is mostly famous for mobile graphics processors, MIPS embedded microprocessors and involves in radio base-band processing, networking, video and audio hardware etc. They are also listed on the London Stock exchange.

Apple makes use of PowerVR graphics in their iPhones and iPads. Acquiring the British firm would bring in-house graphic processing and more control over graphical capabilities in their devices. Imagination in a statement did mention about focusing its efforts on the PowerVR line which has helped guide its business despite troubles elsewhere and were really considering selling its consumer electronics businesses.

Valued at about half-a million pounds, Imagine announced in February about reducing its operation costs substantially in 2016 due to increasing competition in a wide range of markets in different components.

Apple however are aware of Imagines' troubles despite working with them directly for its graphical components and also owns a stake in the British firm. This acquisition adds up to one of Apple's investments with their last reported acquisition in January.

Apple would surely see value in Imagination's PowerVR division. It seems likely that the Cupertino giant is ready and willing to offers, if looked at. However, after a while Apple came out with a statement that it does not currently plan for immediate acquisition.
