H S Prannoy wins Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Title.

Thirteenth seeded H S Prannoy of India has successfully achieved his maiden Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton title by upsetting the seventh seeded Marc Zwiebler of Germany with straight set win of 21-18, 21-15 in the finals of this tournament held in Basel on this Sunday.. He was able to defeat the latter in just 45 minutes. It was his second title after his Indonesian Open triumph in 2014. And thus H S Prannoy took a revenge for his 2014 Australian Open defeat against Marc Zwiebler.

However H S Prannoy was a giant killer throughout the competition, he had to face stiff competition from the unseeded Tzu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei with a tiring and a gripping semi-final which saw a three set encounter. H S Prannoy also gave a shock to the sixth seeded player Rajiv Ouseph of England in a two set match in the third round of the tournament.H S Prannoy is a trainee under Pullela Gopichand Academy, He has been in tremendous form from the last concluded Asian Team Championship held in Hyderabad, Prannoy had helped India surge ahead in the competition with his convincing victory in all the three matches that he played, this helped India bag its historic Bronze medal in the championship. It is to be noted that India has retained its Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton title this year too, because the last year's title was won by another promising shuttler Kidambi Srikanth of India.

However the same could not be reciprocated by the women's singles, India lost its last hope Saina Nehwal when she lost her encounter with third seeded Wang Yihan of China in an match of 40 minutes which saw a scoring of 11-21, 19-21 in the semi-finals of the tournament. Saina Nehwal had previously won the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton title twice in the year 2011 and 2012.
