Social network giant has just officially unveiled its Canvas ad platform for mobile marketers called Canvas first announced in September last year. For a year, the platform has been touted as 'instant ads' because of its resemblance to 'Instant Articles' which Facebook designed specifically for publishers.

What is Facebook Canvas?

According to a blogpost in The Next Web, canvas is deemed as an upgraded version of the Carousel ads which enabled users to take a peek at the products or brands they're interested in by swiping through product images. Canvas, however, is far more advanced with mini websites custom tailored around a particular brand or products with immersive and interactive features like slideshows, descriptions, and a scrollable interface.

The work on the said platform have started in late 2014 as a response to a growing demand for greater 'ownable' space by marketers in order to offer consumers more cutting-edge and interactive social media marketing experience on mobile devices. In addition, Facebook mulls on bringing Canvas to Instagram.

"All of a sudden, now you have this multimedia cornucopia of options to present to the users. Stringing that together is going to increase the amount of time that your customer spends with your brand," remarked Gartner research director Brian Blau as quoted by CIO.

Recently, storytelling through mobile ads is gaining ground in an attempt to extract juicier revenues from each user. It's all about creating impact. After all, that's what makes social media marketing different from conventional advertising.

"By giving advertisers a richer format to market through, it can make sure viewers remember them," wrote John Constine in his article for Tech Crunch.
