Some owners of iPhone 6 with an updated iOS 9 have found themselves holding a totally useless handset after a little-known "Error 53" is killing their beloved gadget permanently.

For some reason, Apple's latest software update seems to infuriate thousands of their users who reportedly claimed being barred access to their phone after getting their iPhones fixed by non-Apple technicians.

"The whole thing is extraordinary. How can a company deliberately make their own products useless with an upgrade and not warn their own customers about it? Outside of the big industrialized nations, Apple stores are few and far between, and damaged phones can only be brought back to life by small third-party repairers," remarked Apple hardcore user and freelance photographer Antonio Olmos as quoted by The Guardian.

According to a report by Forbes, "error 53" is a deliberate security measure that came with Apple's latest iOS 9 which effectively 'bricks 'or disables the phone if the TouchID is repaired or replaced by a third-party technician. The intent is to bar access to the phone and freezes all device functions when it gets stolen.

When iPhone is serviced by an unauthorized repair provider, faulty screens or other invalid components that affect the Touch ID sensor could cause the check to fail if the pairing cannot be validated. With a subsequent update or restore, additional security checks result in an Error 53 being displayed," said an Apple spokesman as quoted by The Telegraph.

Understandably, this mysterious security doesn't sit well with many users who often seek help from non-Apple technicians rather than going to Apple centers to get their iPhones fixed. The worst thing is that Apple users had not been publicly informed of this new security feature thereby creating a fury of customer complaints.

The company, however, advised iPhone users who are experiencing such problem to contact Apple directly or its authorized provider.
