Philadelphia 76ers plan to add Mike D’Antoni to Coaching Staff

The Philadelphia 76ers have been changing up their coaching staff and their latest addition will be Mike D'Antoni.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the 76ers are looking to hire D'Antoni, 64, as the assistant head coach. D'Antoni is expected to join the team toward the end of the month. The team has signed a two-year contract extension with coach Brett Brown and has brought in Jerry Colangelo as the new chairman of basketball operations.

D'Antoni will bring a lot of experience to the coaching staff. D'Antoni held the head coach position with the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Los Angels Lakers. His most successful stint was with the Suns between 2003 and 2008 when he led the team to two Western Conference finals. He was also named the NBA coach of year for the 2004-05 season.

D'Antoni and Colangelo have worked together with the Suns and the USA basketball team.

The Sixers are in dire need of some changes. They are currently dead last in the league with a record of 1-23 and are expected to get top picks in the upcoming 2016 draft, which will help them rebuild.

In the past two seasons, the team when 18-64 and 19-63. They also have the league record for the most consecutive losses with 28.

The Sixers will be playing the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 6:00 p.m. ET.
