Jihadi John, the dreaded Islamic State executioner featured in numerous beheading videos has reportedly been killed in a US drone strike in Syria, senior military officials confirmed on Friday.

CNN quoted US army officials claiming that Mohammed Emwazi, a.k.a Jihadi John was killed when a drone struck the vehicle he was travelling. The terrorist was being closely tracked in Raqqa, Syria. He was killed with another person, believed to be a low-level IS personnel.

Emwazi, a Kuwait-born British citizen, is known to have beheaded British aid workers David Haines and Alan Henning, American journalists Steven Sotloff and James Foley, and Japanese journalist Kenji Goto.

According to NBC News, Emwazi was in contact with one of the terrorists convicted for London's tube bombings which resulted in the death of 52 people. Emwazi's execution is being viewed as closure for the families of the victims killed by him.

While mentioning that confirmation of Emwazi's death is awaited, David Cameron announced that Britain worked with US in tracking the terrorist.

Cameron also said killing Emwazi was a right thing as he was a threat to innocent civilians around the world. The British Prime Minister also thanked the US for the attack while calling its Britain's best ally.
