Dakota Johnson, known for her role as Anastasia Steele in the erotica movie, "Fifty Shades of Grey," revealed that she purposely made her character funny so that viewers can have some kind of comedic relief.

"I needed Anastasia to be funny," Johnson said in a new interview with Elle. "If you can't laugh during a movie like that, you're f**cked. Literally."

"There had to be a sense of wide-eyed, excitable curiosity, but grounded in a worldliness. She had to have an inner strength that would carry her through the darkest of moments. I knew straightaway that Dakota was the girl," the director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, who has since departed from the project, said about Johnson.

"Fifty Shades of Grey," the first movie in the trilogy that is being adapted from E.L. James' books with the same titles, introduced viewers to Steele, a naïve college student/recent graduate and Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), a mysterious billionaire with a dark history who becomes enamored by Steele.

Despite being from completely different worlds, the two have an inexplicable connection that gets tested when Grey tries to get Steele to agree to become his submissive in the sexual world of BDSM.

The sequel to the movie, "Fifty Shades Darker," which will be directed by James Foley, is supposed to be much darker. Hopefully Johnson's portrayal of Steele will provide viewers with some light moments.

Production for the film is supposed to start next year. However, Universal Studios have yet to hire a casting director, who would be in charge of finding the best available actors to play key roles.

"Fifty Shades Darker" is scheduled to be released on Feb. 10, 2017.
