Painkillers might be the cause of Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting's divorce!

According to US Weekly, "The Big Bang Theory" actress asked for a divorce because Sweeting, 28, could not kick his addiction to painkillers, which he had started taking due to injuries. His struggles "turned their marriage into a nightmare."

"[Kaley] supported [Ryan] but she said he couldn't make the commitment to get sober," an insider revealed "He'd tell her he was working on it and instead go get wasted...Kaley told friends (that) doctors prescribed something that he was taking too much of. That was when it went downhill again."

Cuoco, 29, is reportedly devastated that her 21-month long marriage, which was amazing in the beginning, has crumbled.

Cuoco and Sweeting got married in 2013 after only a few months of dating. Sweeting was reportedly sober when they fell in love. His addiction, however, started and only got worst throughout their marriage.

"She didn't want to get divorced, but felt she had no choice," a source allegedly close to Cuoco said. "She couldn't fix him. He wasn't the man she thought he was. She couldn't take his ups and downs. He'd lash out at her."

A source quoted by PEOPLE stated that they "seemed miserable" during night outs together before their divorce. The source added that the "tension was noticeable."

"You could tell the honeymoon phase has ended," the source said.

Cuoco filed for divorce on Sept. 25. The papers cited irreconcilable differences as the cause of the split.

Cuoco has been spending a lot of her time with her family, friends and horses. She was seen smiling and having fun at the Longines Masters of Los Angeles opening evening gala, which took place on Thursday at the Prestige Village Lounge in Los Angeles. The actress shared a shot of her night via Instagram.

Cuoco, who loves horse riding, recently got a new horse named Zaza.
