Ever since she was missing in 1984, Petra Pazsitka, a 24-year-old college student, had been thought to be dead, a victim of murder who disappeared for 31 years.

The German woman was recently found alive and healthy in Dusseldorf, according to Daily Mail.

Pazsitka, a 24-year-old college student studying computer science, did not turn up for a birthday party at her brother's house, when reports of her missing triggered a huge hunt. However, no body was found.

It was more puzzling that a man who had been convicted of raping and murdering a 14-year-old girl had pleaded guilty to murdering Pazsitka, though later he withdrew his statement.

Strangely, the woman had disappeared of her own volition. Why she did it is not clear at all. She "continues to want no contact with the public or her family."

She has been jumping through various cities with no social security card, passport, bank account or driver's license. She was discovered only after the cops were alerted about a burglary, and some probing made her confess her mysterious past.

The 55-year-old Pazsitka, calling herself Mrs Shneider, confessed that she had vanished 30 years ago, according to HNGN. But she gave no reasons as to why.

A spokesperson for Braunschweig and Wolfsburg Police reportedly said: "As to the motive of her disappearance, she gave no explanation and expressly said that she continues to want no contact with the public or her family."
