Tom Hanks oldest son with Rita Wilson, Chet Wilson, is giving thanks to the community for supporting him after he said he is almost 60 days sober.

"Thanks for the support everybody. I'm coming up on 60 days clean/sober and I can honestly say I've never felt better," the 24-year-old singer said in a series of tweets Wednesday. "Once I decided to change my lifestyle, blessings began to manifest IMMEDIATELY. But the truth is I've always been blessed.

"Sometimes you have to go through missteps to end up where you're meant to be, at which point you realize they were never missteps," he said. "They were just what you needed to go through at the time you were going through it, in order to grow and progress."

Fans commended him for taking action. "You're amazing!!" one wrote. Another said, "Proud of you for being open about it man!" A third admirer added, "Take it day by day. You are stronger than you know."

Chet said he felt obligated to come out with the news to his fans after learning that Star planned to expose his addiction issues in its Dec. 8 issue. "A tabloid is about to run a piece on me being in rehab for cocaine addiction. It's true and I'm currently 50 days clean and sober from everything-including alcohol," the Northwestern University student said in the video. "I don't give a f--k what people think. F--k the media."

While neither Hanks or Wilson have commented on their son's troubles, it appears they've been supportive of him seeking help.

"I'm thankful for my family and everybody that cares about me, including my fans," Chet wrote. I've been blessed with the programs of AA and NA which allow me to rise above this disease. I'm learning to accept my faults and be OK with being human," he wrote.

"If anybody that sees this struggles with addiction, feel free to reach out."
