Speculations regarding the release date of Winds of Winter carry on, making it difficult for die-hard fans to relax.  George R.R. Martin is still mum about his ending for "A Song of Ice and Fire," leading many to suspect that HBO's Game of Thrones will end before the book even drops.

The illustrious writer was recently photographed in Spokane, Washington attending the Sasquan Science fiction convention.  Many novelists were interested in acquiring information regarding the fate of Winds of Winter and one of them was unable to control his excitement! A direct question was posed to the writer regarding one of the story's key characters- Stannis. Martin's response was satisfactory for many: Stannis is alive... in his book, that is. The news came as a surprise because the last episode of HBO's Game of Thrones ended with what many had interpreted as Stannis' death at the hands of Brienne of Tarth.

Martin was once again exposed to an assorted number of questions among which the release date has been the frequently asked one. The response was vague and seemed like Martin is yet to keep his fans exasperated till then. He responded by saying "Don't ask me when the book is going to be done - I'll ask my minions to lop your head off," Martin jokingly answered.

The writer has made it very clear that the release date of Winds of Winter is not on the roll yet. Till then, this news would suffice the enthusiasts and they would have to be more patient and content with the limited, revealed information.

In order to satisfy his fans, he shared a piece of writing from the approaching chapter, which exposed the point of view of Arianne Martell, the eldest daughter of Prince Doran Martell of Dorne. She is the assumed next individual to get the throne. The chapter contained information regarding Arianne and her journey toward finding answers regarding Prince Rhaegar's son, Aegon Targaryen.

While Martin is unable to give the release date for "The Winds of Winter," season six of "Game of Thrones" is all set to return in 2016.
