With just a week to go before the much-hyped speculated release of iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, word of a 4-inch iphone is doing the rounds. The catch however is Apple won't launch the phone anytime soon.

According to sources of 9to5Mac, Apple will have iPhones in its kitty after its September 9 launch. These include the two new phones, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and iPhone 5s. If true, this could indicate the end of iPhone 5c which was launched in fall 2013. The phone has been deemed a non-performer in sales terms compared to other models.

It was also reported that a 4-inch iPhone 6c is in the works. The phone may have borrowed its feature set from last year's flagship iPhone 6. Apple however does not plan to ship the phone on September 18 when iPhone 6S and its bigger cousin start selling.

BGR also reported that Apple had begun work on a 3.5-inch phone but the product's development has been stopped.

The design of iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus may differ only very slightly from last year's flagship phones but are expected to be significantly different under the hood. Force Touch, better processor and camera are some improvements the new phones could come with.
