Amy Duggar, Josh Duggar's cousin, has spoken out about the child molestation scandal surrounding their family.

"I didn't know about it," Amy, 28, told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. "It took me by surprise."

About three months ago, it was revealed that Josh had molested five young girls when he was a teenager. Some of the girls included his younger sisters, Jill and Jessa. The identities of the other three victims, some of who are rumored to be family members, have remained sealed. People, however, started speculating that Amy could have been molested too. She has since debunked those rumors.

"I was not part of it at all," Amy said. "I wasn't anywhere near any of that."

According to the police report that was obtained and published by In Touch, Josh's parents, Jim Bob and Melissa caught Josh coming out of an underage girl's room.

They sent him away to a church in order to receive help. At the time, no one outside of his immediate family knew what was going on or why Josh went away for a while.

"I knew that he did go away for a little bit, but I didn't know why," Amy continued. "Honestly, I don't even think about it. I think we're all past it."

Amy, who has been busy planning her wedding to her fiancé Dillon King, was the subject of recent controversy. Reports surfaced that she had asked fans to send them money and gifts for their wedding. Amy responded to those rumors, stating that they do not need charity.

"I don't consider myself a celebrity by any means. I still shop at Goodwill! But it's like, no offense; we don't really need the help. We're blessed," she said.

After she made these comments, Amy revealed that she got her wedding dress for free from the She Said Yes Bridal Boutique located in Rogers, Arkansas, leading many people to criticize her for being hypocritical.
