A crab on Mars? Really, that's what NASA's spotted, according to unilad.

NASA's rover named Curiosity, launched by Mars Science Laboratory mission, as part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program, is exploring the Red Planet, "to assess whether Mars ever had an environment able to support small life forms called microbes," according to reactshare. A few days ago, NASA released the photograph of an odd-looking crab-like creature.

Now that has made everyone in social media jump with excitement. It even got featured in the Facebook group titled 'Journey to the Surface of the Moon', with another entertaining slogan: "They will not tell the truth about MARS".

Still, many people said that "it's in fact a weirdly shaped rock and not a flesh-eating Martian space crab".

Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the Center for SETI Research, who said that the 'space crab' could be due to pareidolia, or the brain's ability to identify shapes in random objects. He said: "Those that send them to me are generally quite excited, as they claim that these frequently resemble something you wouldn't expect to find on the rusty, dusty surface of the Red Planet."

He added: "It's usually some sort of animal, but occasionally even weirder objects such as automobile parts. Maybe they think there are cars on Mars."

"Recognizing a crab in a landscape filled with wind-weathered rocks is no more surprising -- nor more significant -- than seeing a winking face in a semi-colon followed by a parenthesis. ;)

One thing is for sure. The 'crab' or mistaken object in a remote planet, has sure grabbed a lot of eyeballs, whether the strange crab is aware of it---or cares---or not.
