Rumors were circulating that Apple would be releasing a new edition of the iPod touch on July 14. However, that date came and passed with no signs of the iPod Touch 6th Generation.

The rumored released date was reported by the iGen, which cited "reliable" sources. iGen, a French website, also reported that the iPod Tough 6th Generation would be launched alongside new models of the iPod Nano and Shuffle. These devices would all be the fastest ever.

Despite these supposed sources, the July 14 date was not very realistic based on the Apple's normal release cycle pattern. Apple tends to release new models and devices later in the year. However, the latest speculations believe that Apple will not be launching any kinds of iPods this year.

The iPod has not had great success on the market in recent years with the development of other Apple devices, such as the iPhone and iPad. The device could be more ideal for the younger crowd who could play apps without buying a wireless service plan. However, many of these young children are already playing these games on iPads. So if there is no market, or rather a very small market, for iPods, has Apple really revamped the device?

Apple first launched the iPod Touch in 2007. The last generation was released in 2012. Since then, Apple has not confirmed whether or not there will be a new generation added to the iPod Touch series.

UPDATE:

Apple has upgraded the iPod touch with iPhone 6 features. The latest model has an A8 chip and an 8MP camera.
