The Dallas Mavericks are eyeing free agent Jeremy Lin, league sources reported. According to these sources, the Mavericks are looking at sign-and-trade options with the Los Angeles Lakers for the point guard.

The Mavericks have to explore into sign-and-trade options because of their limited salary-cap space. The team currently has a $2.8 million exception available, which they are expected to use on free agent J.J. Barea.

If a deal can be completed, 26-year-old Lin has a possibility of becoming the Mavericks' starting point guard, where he would run the offense with many big name players such as Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons and new addition, DeAndre Jordan. Lin would also be reuniting with Parsons, who he played with when they were with the Houston Rockets.

Although Lin has had an up-and-down career throughout the league, his efficiency at the pick-and-roll could be beneficial for Jordan. Mavericks' owner is reportedly a huge fan of Lin. During the regular season, Lin averaged 11 points and 4.6 assists. Throughout his career, he averaged 11.7 points and 4.8 assists.

The Mavericks most recent guard, Rajon Rondo, did not work out due to tensions between the player and head coach, Rick Carlisle. Rondo has agreed to sign with the Sacramento Kings on a one-year, $9.5 million deal. Their other guard, Monta Ellis, is set to sign a four-year, $44 million deal with the Indiana Pacers in free agency.

Teams can start signing free agents on July 9th.
