Alexander Toczko was 95 years old, and Jeanette was 96. But both of them died as they lived---together, holding hands, just hours apart.

The couple began to date when they were just eight, and finally, they died in love.

It happened a few weeks ago, when Alexander fell badly and damaged his hip, so that he was laid up in bed. Staff from a local hospice transported a bed to his home, which was pushed up against his wife's bed.

"He must have fallen. He broke his hip," Toczko said, according to usatoday. He told KGTV that his father never fully recovered and his health began to fade quickly.

But although he rapidly deteriorated, Jeanette too drooped in health. They had always wanted to die "in their own bed, holding hands, in each other's arms" and so they did on June 17th, with Toczco's beloved wife following him in a day.

Their daughter, Aimee Toczko-Cushman, recalled the historic moments: "I told my mother he was gone. She hugged him and she said 'See this is what you wanted. You died in my arms and I love you. I love you, wait for me, I'll be there soon'."

Hence, their five children walked out quietly, in order to let them say their final goodbyes to each other.

Aimee added: "Even the hospice nurse said it was the most incredible thing to see the two of them taking those last breaths together."

Their marriage dates back to 1940, before Alexander became a naval telegraph operator. The entire family then shifted to New York City, where he became an advertiser. Jeanette was a stylist and the two of them then opened an advertising and fashion photography company together.

Aimee Toczko-Cushman said her mother "kept asking us: 'What is today? What is today?' We said it was June. She said, 'It's June 29′" - the day that marked 75 years of marriage," according to ktla.

Although the couple's diamond anniversary actually had not yet arrived, their family members decided to buy balloons and flowers and celebrate anyway.

Their family is pretty huge, with five children, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
