The next Spiderman has officially been casted.

Marvel and Sony Pictures announced that 19-year-old British actor, Tom Holland, will be playing Peter Parker/Spiderman. The superhero movie will be directed by Jon Watts.

"The Marvel process is very thorough, and that's why their results are so outstanding. I'm confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I've worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom's screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start," Tom Rothman, the chairman of Sony Pictures, said.

"As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life. We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring," Marvel head Kevin Feige stated in regards to the director.

Producer Amy Pascal added, "Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we've found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man's story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

Holland has appeared in The Impossible and the TV miniseries, Wolf Hall. He can also be seen in an upcoming movie titled In the Heart of the Sea. Prior to the announcement, Holland shared some of his moves via Instagram, which fueled rumors that he was going to be the next Spiderman.

Holland will be the third Parker in less than 15 years. Tobey Maguire played Parker in the 2002, 2004 and 2007 Spiderman movies. British actor Andrew Garfield then took on the role in the 2012 and 2014 movies.

When news broke that Marvel and Sony wanted to make another Spiderman movie series, fans were hoping that they would opt for the more diverse option, Miles Morales. In the comics, Morales, who is bi-racial, takes over as Spiderman after Parker's death.

The new Spiderman is set to hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
