Madam Tussauds' very first transgender wax figure will be Laverne Cox. The figure will be unveiled at the San Francisco museum in Fisherman's Wharf during Pride Weekend, which takes place from June 26-27.

"I am so deeply honored to have been asked to be part of the Madame Tussauds legacy," Cox said in a statement published on the museum's website. "When I think about being who I am, a black trans woman from a working class background raised in Mobile, Alabama, this honor feels even more improbable and extraordinary."

Other wax figures at the museum include Lady Gaga, George Clooney and Anne Hathaway.

Cox gained fame for her portrayal of the transgender character, Sophia Burset on the Netflix original series, "Orange is the New Black." The show follows different groups of incarcerated women. Cox became the first openly transgender person to get a Primetime Emmy nomination for her role as Burset, the prison's hairdresser.

In regards to her role, Cox said to Cosmopolitan Magazine, "I feel so grateful to be able to come to set and receive these stories that are so profoundly human. I think it gets really real for Sofia in series 3 in terms of her relationship with her family on the outside and also being a trans woman on the inside."

Cox also talked about being fortunate to have support. She said, "For most transgender people, it's not always hunky dory. People are not always so loving and supportive. Most trans folks don't have the privileges Caitlyn and I have now have. It is those trans folks we must continue to lift up, get them access to healthcare, jobs, housing, safe streets, safe schools and homes for our young people. We must lift up the stories of those most at risk, statistically trans people of color who are poor and working class. I have hoped over the past few years that the incredible love I have received from the public can translate to the lives of all trans folks."

Madam Tussauds stated that it is proud to commemorate Cox's achievements as well as the impact that she has made for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community.

"Orange is the New Black" premieres on June 12th.
