Bruce Jenner, the earlier sporting champion, launched a stinging attack on ex-wife Kris, even as his new female identity, Caitlyn, stepped out of him into the cover of Vanity Fair, according to dailymail.

Having been married for 23 years till they divorced last December, Caitlyn calls Kris "controlling", as she "mistreated" him. The 65-year-old said Kris, 59, "wasn't very nice" and that it wasn't her gender but Kris' mistreatment that caused them to split.

"The first 15 years I felt she needed me more because I was the breadwinner," she told Vanity Fair. "Then really around the show, when that hit and she was running the whole show and getting credit for it and she had her own money, she didn't need me as much from that standpoint... I think in a lot of ways she became less tolerant of me."

Caitlyn added: "A lot of times she wasn't very nice. People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money, all that kind of stuff."

Kris was amazed when Bruce revealed that he wanted to become a woman. "It was like the most passive-aggressive thing I think I ever experienced," Kris lashed back.

Kris told Vanity Fair: "He was married to me and he wasn't who he wanted to be so he was miserable... All I was doing was working very hard for my family so that we could all have a wonderful future, and he was p***ed off."

She recalled: "At the end of my relationship with Bruce he definitely had a lot of social anxiety... That was one of the reasons we were in a struggle at the end."

Caitlyn has received overwhelming support from her family, celebrities, as well as friends around the world. She insisted in the interview that Kris was aware that earlier he had taken hormones in the late 1980s, which led to many side-effects, including breasts, with a 'good solid B cup'. Kris added that Bruce had a 'little bit of a man boob situation' but 'no B cup going on.'

Jenner admits that she made a mistake by not being clear about his gender identity. She asked: "Why would you want to be married and have kids if this is what you wanted since you were a little boy? Why would you not explain this all to me?"

However, Caitlyn was clear that the marriage broke up not merely due to her gender. "Twenty percent was gender and 80 percent was the way I was treated," she said.

A lot of support for Caitlyn has poured in from celebrities, such as Demi Moore, Lady Gaga and Ellen DeGeneres.

Even Jenner's 30-year-old stepdaughter Khloe Kardashian was the first family member to share her reaction on social. She wrote on Instagram: "We were given this life because you were strong enough to live it!"

"I couldn't be prouder!!! Caitlyn, You are beautiful!!!"

"Live life your way': Kim shared this note with her 32 million Twitter followers in support of Caitlyn."

Jenner's model daughter Kendall, 19, also wrote on Instagram: "Now that's a cover," adding, "be free now pretty bird."

Daughter Kylie, 17, wrote: "My angel on earth!"

Kim, 34, who is pregnant, said to her 32 million Twitter followers: "Caitlyn Jenner for Vanity Fair. Annie Leibovitz! How beautiful! Be happy, be proud, live life YOUR way!"

The July issue of Vanity Fair magazine featuring Caitlyn Jenner will hit newsstands next week on June 9.
