iPhone sales are on track to cross another 51 million units, according to latest results from the UBS Evidence Lab iPhone Monitor, first reported by Apple Insider.

Whether or not Apple will actually manufacture that many units to meet demand is unknown, but the new data did compel analyst Steven Milunovich to raise his sales estimate for June quarter from 43 million iPhones to 48 million units, Apple Insider noted.

The rising demand of the iPhone can be attributed to growing sales in China. Globally, 23 percent year over year growth of iPhone has been reported but in the case of China the increase has been reported to be 100 percent.

To offer some perspective, last year Apple sold 35.2 million iPhones.

Cupertino based company has only topped 50 million iPhone sales in a single quarter three times: First in the fall of 2013, again a year later and the again in the following quarter that concluded in April.

Reportedly, Apple has surpassed Xiaomi, the Chinese manufacturer, in the first quarter this year.

Apple recently introduced Apple Watch, compatible with only iPhone 5s and later which might be another reason increasing number of people are opting for iPhones.
