After being able to pre-order movies, smartphones, Internet users will now be able to pre-order apps as well, thanks to the new initiative by Google Play.

Under the program, developers will be allowed to offer Android users interested in an upcoming app, the ability to pre-register for an upcoming release.

"When you pre-register for apps and games, you'll get a notification the day the item becomes available to download. For paid items, you won't be charged until you install the app or game," Google said in a statement.

To Pre-register:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. Visit the item's detail page.
  3. Touch Pre-register.

Reportedly, the first app offered for pre-registration was Terminator Genisys: Revolution, a third-party shooter game, which is scheduled to soon be released by Glu Media.

Users can also cancel their pre-registration if they change their mind in regards to purchasing or downloading the previously pre-registered app. Google Play's pre-registration system is expected to help programmers and developers see the would-be reaction to their soon-to-be-released apps, handling feedback in advance for possible upgrades or modifications, Immortal.org noted.

Essentially, the pre-registration system is just a notification system meaning that the users are not obligated to buy a particular app or game once it becomes available.
