Apple Watch is now available - at least for preorders and is being backed by many as instant hit. However, rivals are doing everything they can to give Apple's watch a tough competition.

In a related move, Motorola gave its smartwatch Moto 360 a hefty price cut - from the launch price of $250, to $179 and $180 on Amazon.com, Inc. and Best Buy Co Inc respectively.

The higher-end version (with a metal band) of the Moto 360, which retailed for $299 at launch, is now available for under $230 - priced at $220 at Best Buy and $229 at Amazon, respectively.

It's not just Moto 360 that is getting a price cut. Another wearable device, MetaWatch, was reported to be briefly available online at $15 plus shipping (refurbished). If bought brand new, the device, compatible with both Android and iOS, costs $179, Bidness Etc reported.

Notably, only 720,000 units of Android-based wearable devices were sold last year, with Moto 360 being a clear leader. On the hand, Apple Watch is expected to sell 31.6 million units in 2016.
