Social media can be a dangerous place.

It took only a few hours after Comedy Central announced Trevor Noah as the new host of "The Daily Show" for criticisms to emerge. The comedian, native to South Africa, quickly came under fire for tweets he had posted in the past. These tweets, according to social media, were anti-Semitic, misogynistic and downright offensive.

Like many comedians, Noah has posted several controversial tweets that are supposed to be funny. However, some of these jokes might have crossed the line from being laughable to hurtful.

Some of Noah's previous tweets that many found misogynistic included:

"Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I'm sexy!" Noah attributed this quote, which was posted in 2011, to "fat chicks everywhere."

"I like women that don't wear make up. For me they're like pizza- still great the next morning!"

"A hot white woman with a** is like a unicorn. Even if you do see one, you'll probably never get to ride it."

"I'm watching Olympic women's hockey. It's like lesbian porn. Without the porn. #InLove."

Aside from his posts that objectified and body shamed women, Noah also came under scrutiny for some tweets that were perceived as anti- Semitic.

In 2009, he posted, "Almost bumped a Jewish kid crossing the road. He didn't look b4 crossing but I still would hav felt so bad in my german car!"

In a 2010 post, he wrote, "South Africans know how to recycle like israel knows how to be peaceful."

More recently in 2012, Noah wrote, "Messi gets the ball and the real players try foul him, but Messi doesn't go down easy, just like jewish chicks. #ElClasico."

Although comedians face criticisms every day, Noah's recent backlash could affect his new gig on the late-night comedy programs. When Noah was announced as the next host of "The Daily Show," he said, "It's an honor to follow Jon Stewart. He and the team at 'The Daily Show' have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world."

Stewart, who held the post since 1999, also endorsed Noah, calling him a "tremendous comic and talent."

Comedy Central reps and Noah have not commented about the recent controversy.
